Harbour BioMed announces with profound sadness the passing of Professor Frank Grosveld on June 25, 2026. Professor Grosveld was a visionary inventor of the Harbour Mice® technology platform and a highly esteemed member of Harbour BioMed's Scientific Advisory Committee.
Professor Grosveld founded Harbour Antibodies B.V. in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 2006. The company subsequently became an integral part of Harbour BioMed's global antibody discovery engine. Under his distinguished scientific leadership, his team developed the H2L2 and HCAb fully human antibody transgenic mice, which forms the cornerstone of the Harbour Mice® platform. This pioneering work established a new paradigm for fully human antibody discovery and has since enabled the advancement of numerous therapeutic candidates toward clinical development and commercialization worldwide. To date, the platform has been used by over 140 industry partners, including giants such as AstraZeneca and Bristol Myers Squibb. Therapeutics derived from Harbour Mice® platform are now being used to treat multiple diseases such as cancer, immunological disorders, and neurologic diseases, with more than 20 candidates currently in clinical development.
An internationally renowned molecular biologist, Professor Grosveld was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), was a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), and was awarded the Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion. Over the course of an illustrious career, he made seminal contributions to the understanding of gene regulation, transgenic mouse technologies, and chromatin biology. His scientific excellence was widely acknowledged through numerous prestigious honors, including the Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine in 1991 and the Spinoza Prize in 1995.
During his tenure on Harbour BioMed's Scientific Advisory Committee, Professor Grosveld provided exceptional scientific guidance, contributing to Harbour BioMed's research strategy while fostering a culture of rigor, innovation, and intellectual curiosity.
Professor Grosveld's scientific vision, pioneering spirit, and lifelong dedication to advancing biomedical science leave an enduring legacy. His contributions have laid the foundation for transformative innovations in antibody discovery and will continue to inspire future generations of scientists.
Harbour BioMed extends its deepest respect and gratitude for Professor Grosveld's extraordinary impact and offers its sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those who had the privilege of working with him. His legacy of scientific excellence and intellectual courage will forever remain enshrined in the history of Harbour BioMed and will continue to guide those who pursue the frontiers of biomedical research.
